New Delhi, Feb 7:
Aam Aadmi Party's Anti-Corruption Bureau has filed an FIR, alleging conspiracy and cheating under the Prevention of Corruption Act in a project to install streetlights before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The entire project was worth Rs 90-crore. However, it was surprising why the former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was not named.
In fact, the FIR names vague elements like the "pecuniary beneficiaries", including contractors who supplied street lights.
The ACB was directed by the newly formed Delhi government to lodge an FIR as it believed that the project incurred a loss of Rs 31.07 crores to the state.
"The government has directed the ACB to conduct a thorough probe into the scam as there are certain serious findings in it by the CAG and Shunglu Committee," said Manish Sisodia, the Delhi Education Minister.
As part of the promises made in the election manifesto, Arvind Kejriwal promised to take action against the corrupt in various departments during the Commonwealth Games.
Unlike the ACB the Shunglu panel, set by Manmohan Singh to probe the scam, clearly named the Sheila Dikshit government and four MCD officials for the loss.
The present Delhi government alleges that there was a clear understanding between the then government and the firm SpaceAge Switch Gears,
which was already disqualified by the Board of Assessors in 2007.
The company sold low-quality imported material and made an undue profit of Rs 2.68 crore.
This is second such case against Sheila Dikshit that the AAP has reopened. However, much is in waiting still as the AAP has decided to reopen a case of advertisement against her where she allegedly used public money for personal advertisements. OneIndia News
